Antonino Sciortino

“Eclectic designer who has been able to interpret the ancient art of iron working in a completely new key.””

Antonino’s story is that of a boy born into a large family from the south of Bagheria who had the good fortune to grow up next to the splendor of an unrepeatable sea and land. At eight he began learning the blacksmith’s trade in his brother’s workshop and at the same time became passionate about dance, and, with his clothes still impregnated with the smell of iron, he attended a dance school in Palermo.
The career of dancer and choreographer continues with success until 2003 when, on the threshold of forty years, he acknowledged that the career of dancer was running out, he enters in Milan in the circle of the Compagnia del Giardino and the new artistic adventure begins, characterized by the constant research in the working of iron, of that ethereal lightness typical of dance.
Sciortino’s creations derive from that unusual combination with the use of “cooked” wire, a particular type of iron, more malleable and which from time to time resembles wood or plastic and which allows the creation of soft lines, spatial animation , of “dancing” shadows.
Sciortino also creates furnishing or design objects by receiving specific commissions or satisfying guests who visit his studio and fall in love with the objects created by purchasing them to furnish the home.
His works are versatile, flexible, lend themselves to multiple functions and arrangements.
